Yes, Trump is our Captain Moroni

Utah GOP Senator Mike Lee got himself in some hot water by calling President Trump "Captain Moroni" this week. Arizona Democrat Yasser Sanchez had a meltdown over it, in response to which, Senator Lee backtracked apologetically.

I'm so tired of smarmy polticians who won't stand by their opinions under pressure of the opposition. Yes, Trump IS our Captain Moroni. For those not familiar, this Moroni is not the one people see on our temples. It's not the Moroni who buried the gold plates with the Book of Mormon on them and then appeared to Joseph Smith 1400 years later. The Moroni of which Senator Lee spoke was the dauntless commander of the Nephite armies, the namesake for the latter Moroni, son of Mormon.

The comparison to Trump is very much-deserved. The Book of Mormon describes Captain Moroni as an extraordnarily righteous man, which is why many Latter-day Saints would not see Trump in that role. That's a judgmental stance, in my opinion, and superficial. The Book of Mormon tells us that Captain Moroni was a tough-as-nails warrior. Warriors aren't usually very nice guys. He did not love violence and bloodshed, but he understood that violence was sometimes the most direct route to resolution of conflict. Some Native American tribes measured their valor by their enemies. In that way, Captain Moroni was mostly defined by who his enemies were and how he confronted them in life. Seeing him in that light mostly explains how the comparison to Trump is fitting. Let's consider some similarities.

  • Captain Moroni was patriotic and supremely confident.

  • He trusted in God.

  • He expected his people to be patriotic and to stand up and fight for liberty.

  • Captain Moroni faced an organized, secretive band of conspirators that sought to overthrow the freedom of his people and gain control over the government.

  • Captain Moroni exhorted people to honor their flag, the "title of liberty" and reminded people of their duties to God and their families to defend their freedom.

  • He strengthened the military.

  • He surrounded Nephite cities with walls.

  • He gathered the patriots and unified them.

  • He rounded up seditionists and executed them if they would not join the cause of freedom.

  • He threatened to overthrow his own government when he perceived that traitors and seditionists had risen to control it.

  • He offered mercy to enemies who would repent, but threatened to destroy those who would not give up their desires to overthrow the duly elected leaders.

So if you don't mind me saying, Captain Moroni was a bad-ass, like our president. There was one account of a battle in the Book of Mormon, where Captain Moroni and his army surrounded their enemies, almost guaranteeing certain death for them. He halted the battle and gave them the chance to surrender, if they would swear an oath that they would never come against Moroni's people in battle again. The enemy commander refused to do so. Moroni responded flatly, "Then we will end the conflict," meaning that the battle would go on until every last one of them was dead." This toughness was also part of Captain Moroni. He understood that unrepentant evil is an eternal threat. He was willing to destroy it out of their midst to save his people.

This toughness typifies Trump. Like Moroni, he faces a covert cabal that has undermined our freedom and our ability to defend it. Obama in particular, whose Secret Service code name was "Renegade" weakened and divided our nation. Previous leaders gave lip-service to God. Trump immediately built up our military forces, but he has wisely avoided new wars and sought diligently to end old ones. He has brought longtime adversaries to the negotiation table to work out peace deals. He is building a wall to protect our borders. He has gathered patriotic people and unified them. In his famous "Our Movement" speech, he promised to replace the existing, corrupt government, with a new one accountable to the people. He is heading for arrests and tribunals to try traitors and seditionists who have infiltrated our government. He loves our country and will do whatever it takes to keep us safe and free.

Senator Mike Lee had it right. Latter-day Saint Democrats are supporting a party that represents a new world order, which is a false Zion, the kingdom of the biblical Beast. Trump is our Captain Moroni, calling patriots to arms to stand against a mortal threat to liberty. The choice is clear. We are seeing hardcore evidence that Biden is the head of a crime family connected to dirty money, corruption, bribery, prostitution, drugs, and even child trafficking. Every charge brought against Trump has been fake and contrived. The Dems blame Trump for the very things Biden has done! Yet some Latter-day Saints can't see it. Maybe they need to spend more time reading the war chapters of Alma in the Book of Mormon and compare to what is going on right now in our day.

Yes, my fellow saints. Rejoice and follow the man waving the Title of Liberty in our tme. Give him your support and vote for him. Don't let evil win! Vote Trump on Tuesday.
